GIMACON 2017 – Conference report

GIMACON 2017 an annual academic and cultural feast of IMA Goa state, Organized by IMA Bicholim was held at Community Hall Taleigao on 14th and 15th of Oct 2017.

 

On Day 1 i.e Sunday 14th October 2017

The conference was preceded by Pre-Conference CME on14th October 2017 from 9 am to 1pm with Hands on Training on commonly used tools in day today  clinical practice with a Theme “ Touch and Learn”  It was conducted by an eminent local faculty members who shared their expertise and knowledge with 90 plus delegates distributed over 10 workstations. There were two lectures on ‘Update and recent trends in Oncology’ by Dr.Shekhar Salkar and Dr.George Jacob prior to this.

The  Conference programme started with Inauguration of Stalls by Goa State IMA Executivemembers. Thetraditional Oration Lecture  started at 5pm, delievered by Dr.Deepak Dubey an eminent Urologist  from Bangalore. The topic was “My Journey with the living Kidney Donors and Transplant”. The session was chaired by- Dr Medha Salkar, Dr.Kalpana Chodankar and Dr. Kartavi Mashelkar.

 This was followed by the Inaugural ceremony with Hon Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Manohar Parrikar as the chief Guest.

Three Senior IMA Members Dr. Pradeep Padwal, Dr.Roque Rebeiro and Dr.Rajesh Patil were felicitated on this occasion. The Best branch award for 2016 was shared by Bardez and Ponda with Dr.Korgaokar as the Best Branch President and Dr.Vardhan Bhobe as the Best Branch Secretary. IMA Book of humor edited by Dr.Deepak Lotlikar was also released on this Occasion.

Post Conference there was Annual General Body Meeting  followed by Valedictory Function and Tea.

GIMACON 2017 was well attended and appreciated by over 400 delegates from all over Goa.

 

 

IMA GOA STATE 2017 REPORT

The installation of the new executive committee took place on 8th January 2017 at Cidade De Goa wherein Dr Medha Salkar took over as the President of IMA Goa State. The theme adopted this year was “Keep Giving Carry on Living” to address the issue of Deceased Donor Transplant Programme in the State of Goa. The installation was followed with a CME on Recent Advances in Breast Cancer with the speakers Dr Vani Parmar and Dr Jacob George who spoke on surgical and medical management respectively.

Soon after taking over the new team met the Heath Secretary on 12th January 2017 with a proposal to start Deceased Donor Transplant Program in Goa. Follow up meetings were held on 23rd January and 23rd February 2017 in presence of other concerned officials to discuss the roadmap towards this program.  Finally the Brain Death Declaration committee was declared for the state of Goa and the 1st Brain Dead declared at Manipal Hospital in Goa.

Meanwhile on 14th Feb 2017 in Barcelona, Spain: TPM DTI (Internationally renowned experts in promoting Deceased Brain dead Donor DBD Transplants) and IMA Goa State solemnized a MOU for joint collaborative actions to promote the cause of DBD transplants in Goa. The agreement was inked by Dr Marti Manyalich, President DTI and on behalf of IMA Goa State by Dr Amol Mahaldar, State Cordinator for Organ Donation activity at IMA Goa State.  The representative of Spanish Embassy in India attended the program on Skype. The Indian Ambassador to Spain also sent his best wishes for this collaboration.  Spanish delegations along with Director of NOTTO were present for the Kidney update CME held at International Centre, Dona Paula. Later they visited Goa Medical College and the Goa assembly wherein they met the CM, Speaker and Health Secretary in this context.

Awareness on this topic was created among the Doctors, Police, Students, Media and general public. Brain Death Certification workshop was held both at Manipal Hospital and at GMC on 15th January and 17th March respectively. CME on Organ Donation were held at different branches of IMA. Awareness programs were conducted for DIET after meeting Director of Education on 23rd February 2017.   A workshop   was held for Goa Police on 23rd February wherein they were addressed on issues like Deceased Donor transplant and Green corridor. On the occasion of International Women’s day, awareness was created among the media by organizing a Press Conference at Bicholim. An MOU was signed between IMA Goa State and Young Indian Group for generating awareness of Organ Donation among the youngsters.

Organ Donor Registration Web link was created by IMA to allow interested people to pledge their Organs online.  Programs like Divchal for Organ Donation followed by a similar program at Margao, CQS, Ponda and other branch level were organized to create awareness about this website among the general public.

 

 

On 24th May, Office bearers of IMA Goa State and IMA Bicholim met the Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar appraising him on various issues like Violence against Doctors, Organ Donation, Biomedical Waste Management, etc.

The theme and the activities of IMA Goa State were well appreciated by  the IMA HQ in the State President and Secretaries meeting held at New Delhi on 2nd April 2017.All the national  level programs announced by IMA HQ were followed by us at the state level. The National Solidarity Day was observed by all the branches on 17th January, 23rd March and 27th April 2017. For “Chalo Dilli” by IMA HQ on 6th June 2017, eleven members of IMA Goa State from various branches like Ponda, CQS, Margao, Bicholim and Bardez visited Delhi under the leadership of Dr Ajay Pednekar.  Blood Donation Drive along with Abbott on 29th June 2017. Aao School Chaley Abhiyan under the leadership of Dr Uday Kakodkar conducted many activities. Dawn to Dusk Fast on 2nd October 2017 outside Raj Bhavan wherein we met the Governor and placed before her the central demands.

The Installation Ceremony of IMA Students Wing now renamed as IMA Medical Students Network took place on 10th April 2017. The same day there was an assault on Dr Redkar. It was heartening to see all the IMA members from various branches gather outside the police station against this inhuman act.  We are thankful to other organizations like Goa Dental Organization, Physiotherapist associations, etc.  for supporting us. A Press conference was organised on 11th April after meeting the SP Margao Police Station. Later the IMA State officials met the CM and DGP in this regard. An awareness program was also conducted for the Goa Police appraising them about Goa Medicare Act.  IMA HQ congratulated the Goa team members along with a letter to Chief Minister complementing the govt. for the timely action.

IMA Goa State in association with CCP organized Biomedical Waste Disposal awareness initiative at CCP Town Hall on 21st March 2017. Around 60 hospitals, dentist, clinics, patho labs and other stake holders attended the meeting.  2nd meeting on this issue was held at CCP on 29th March 2017 along with the Commissioner CCP, Hospital Owners, Dentist, Pathology labs and Veterinary Clinics.  Finally on 31st March 2017, the final meeting  was held at the Secretariat, in the presence of the Health Secretary, CCP Commissioner, Dean GMC, Director of DHS, Member Secretary GSPCB, GHMS, Representatives from Hospitals, Dentist and Clinical Laboratories wherein a concrete plan was designed to handle the Biomedical Waste coming under CCP jurisdiction.

IMA Goa State supported most of the activities of Directorate Of Health Services.  We organised a State level seminar on PCPNDT Act on 13th May2017 at DHS Conference Hall. IMA Goa State in its commitment towards Beti Bachao Beti Padhao issue on 23rd June 2017, felicitated 20 mothers who delivered baby girl at Asilo hospital. Pulse Polio and MR Campaign along with appointment of Nodal officer was supported by all the 7 branches of IMA Goa State.IMA Goa State in association with Primary Health Centre Bicholim and Lions Club of Bicholim organized Workshop on Population Control and Stabilization and Elocution competition on Breast Feeding. National Vector Borne Disease Control Program was conducted at Bicholim. Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matrutva Yojna was implemented on 9th March 2017 at PHC Bicholim. In association with VHAI Goa and DHS IMA Goa State organized State level CME on ‘TB diagnosis n treatment update’ in both North as well as South Goa hosted by IMA Tiswadi and IMA Margoa respectively.

World Health Day was celebrated with a Press conference, answering queries on theme of this year “Depression: Let’s talk”. Yoga day was celebrated by different branches of IMA Goa State. IMA Goa State in association with BMC and Lions club of Bicholim conducted Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign on 1st October in Bicholim, which was graced by the Governor of Goa.

Goa Health Care Expo-2017 was organized on 26th and 27th May 2017 at Hotel Marriot by IMA Goa State in association with Obstetrics and Gynaecology society Panjim and Global Industry Solutions.

IMA Goa State in association with The Goa Cancer society organized free cancer detection camps in Margao, Ponda, Bardez and Bicholim. Total 220 patients were examined out of which 3 cancer cases were detected. IMA Ponda charitable Trust has constructed DILASA-A palliative Care Centre for providing End of life Care in terms of Palliative Medicine and Pain Management. In order to create awareness in the community and sensitize Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and people a press conference was held at DILASA by IMA Ponda followed by a Workshop cum Training Program on25th March which was attended by 75 delegates and a CME on Palliative Care on 26th March which was attended by 140 delegates.

IMA Margao organized its annual CME called MIMA CME on 3rd June with three great speakers, which was a great success.

IMA Bicholim  adopted 3  girl children from Bicholim under Sukanya Samrudhi Yojna.

Goa IMA Doctors Insurance Scheme was rolled on 19th December 2017.

All the seven branches were very active throughout the year.

The Goa State IMA in association with Medicins Sans Frontieres, an NGO, from Delhi, had an awareness session on 18th June, where executive committee members of Goa State IMA interacted with this group. A talk on “Kala Azar and Malnutrition in Ethiopian Context� was delivered by Dr. Alan De Lima Pereira.

 

IMA GOA STATE LEVEL IST EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEET

The second IMA Goa State Executive Committee meet was held on 17th June 2012 at Panaji, Goa, wherein over 30 members from different branches attended. The house was informed about the HQ matters like NCHRH, BRMS, Clinical Establishment Bill etc. Discussion on various state level activities, Annual State conference and amendments to the Goa State IMA constitution were carried out.

The Goa State IMA had a made representation to the Hon. Chief Minister of Goa State Shri Manohar Parrikar and appraised him of IMA’s stand on NCHRH BiIIIBRC/BRMS course and presented the papers to him, Dr HP Pa’, President IMA Goa state, Dr S Salkar Past President, Dr Shailesh Xamat & myself met Shri Manohar Parnkar, Honourable Chief Minister of Goa on 11 May at 1600hrs.

state july2012The Goa State IMA had a made representation to the Hon. Health minister of Goa State Shri Laxmikant Parsekar and appraised him of IMA concerns on:

  1. Clinical estabilishment bill
  2. Prevention of violence against Medical Personnel Bill
  3. SABY – Swarnajayanti Arogya Bima Yojana.

The Goa State through its representation had participated in the Diabetic Walk on World Health day Organised by the Hon Chief Minister of Goa.

DISASTER CELL MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

The following activities were carried out by IMA Goa state DMC:

MFR Programs For Officers of Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Goa.
The Disaster Management Cell Of Indian Medical Association, Goa conducted training programs of Medical First Responders (MFR) for fire fighters for ten days each in January, February & March, 2012. It was coordinated by Mr. Ashok Menon Director and Shri. Rajendra Haldankar, A.D.O, of Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Goa.

The topics covered were:

  • Pre-hospital management
  • Patient assessment
  • Triage
  • Basic life support
  • Medical emergencies
  • A.E.D
  • Trauma related emergencies
  • Extrication of trapped patients, moving and handling of patients.

The faculties consisted of qualified instructors in Basic Life Support & International Trauma Life Support

STATE LEVEL FUNCTIONS

image003The Goa State IMA in association with DHS Goa and Novo Nordisk Education Foundation had organised four state level CME’s on Diabetes with five of the IMA branches of Goa State. 

The third CME was in association with Tiswadi on 16th March at Orion Hotel, Porvorim & the fourth CME image004was held in association with Margao branch on 17th march at Hotel Nanutel, Margao. The speaker for both these CME’S was Dr Neeta Deshpande, Diabetologist from Belgaum & the topic was “Early Initiation of Insulin In Diabetes�. 

The fifth CME was in association with Bardez & Bicholim on 24th March at Orion Hotel, Porvorim, the speaker being Dr Shailaja Kale, Diabetologist from Pune & the topic was “Art of initiation of Insulin�.

image008image006The sixth CME was in association with Ponda on 31st March at Hotel Leela Venkatesh, Ponda, the speaker being Dr Vinaya A S, Endocrinologist from Bangalore & the topic was “Prevent Amputation of Diabetic Foot�.

IMA GOA STATE LEVEL 1ST EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE  MEET

The first IMA Goa State Executive Committee meet was held on 25th March 2012 at Panaji, Goa, wherein over 30 members from different branches attended. The house was informed about the The HQ matters like NCHRH, Leadership Summit, HFC’s etc.

 

Discussion on various state level activities and Annual State conference were carried out.

The Goa State IMA in association with The Directorate of Health services organized a Seminar on Adolescent health on 12th February 2012 at Vasco d Gama, Goa wherein 35 IMA members representing the seven branches of Goa attended and were trained.      image009

The speakers were Dr. Uday Nagarsekar, Dr. Shailesh Kamat and Dr. Ajit Nagarsekar. These 35 members will now conduct programmes in schools to begin, with the involvement of teachers identified and PTAs. The CDs on presentations were provided to all the 7 chapters of IMA in Goa and also more sessions will be held to have more members conducting these sessions.

 

mar_03mar_04mar_05Dr H P Pai, President & Dr Anil Mehndiratta, Hon Secretary Goa State IMA, attended the Leadership Meet in Ghaziabad and briefed the members about their Vision for 2012.

The installation of State Executive IMA ceremony was held on 8th January at Hotel HQ, Vasco Goa. The Chief Guest was Mr B Vijayan, Principal Secretary, Goa State .The special invitee being Dr Rajnanda Dessai, Director, Directorate of Health services, Goa. A CME programme was conducted on the same date on Endocrinology where Dr Uday Phadke & Dr Ankush Dessai delivered talks on Diabetetic Management & Thyroid Disorders respectively.

The Goa State IMA had organised two state level CME on Diabetes with two of the IMA branches. The speaker was Dr Raj Bhrambhatt, Sexologist from Mumbai & the topic was “Sexual Dysfunction in Diabetes�.
